Information
session to help your parish begin a one-week program for children
during the summer months. Location: TBA
Workshops presented
by Sr. Anne McCarty, I.B.V.M.

"I believe
that teaching the young the Bible and how it came to be through
leaning activities such as: Storytelling, Crafts, Hymns, Poetry,
Dance and Drama has to be one of the most exciting and rewarding
ministries in Religious Education today."
Sr. Anne McCarty, I.B.V.M.,
has been an educator in
Catholic Elementary
Schools for many years in Ontario.
Vacation
Bible Programs are enjoying a revival
in many communities.
Many churches offer these programs in the summer months,
through week-long programs during the Easter/Spring school break
are gaining in popularity. Some churches have an evening program
with the whole family.
A common
question gets answered: Why doesn't the Catholic Church organize
Summer Bible Study Groups for children in the parish while other
faiths provide this service?
Planning must begin
early in the year for this program to be successful. Children
will love learning how stories were first told and participate
in acting out biblical characters such as the story of Moses and
the Hebrew people.
Take the opportunity
to provide 'The Story of the Bible: How the World's Best
selling Book Came to Be' as an exciting one-week program
for the children in your parish this summer! "The
Bible is one of the most extraordinary, controversial and intriguing
books! Every year millions of Bibles are sold, making it the best
selling book in history. This resource presents the story of the
Bible and how it came to be in a fun and interesting way for learners
of all ages." Cheryl Perry, author of this resource.
The outlines for the
five sessions provide an ideal five-week study program to be offered
in your parish.
Included in this resource
are four booklets containing session materials for young children,
older children and youth/adults. Each of these booklets contains
background notes for leaders;outlines for five sessions; and an
appendix of games, music, stories, and activity and resource pages.
Activity pages can be copies for participant use.
The material in the kit
has been designed for use with three age levels:
Younger Children (ages
4-7), Older Children (ages 8-11) and Youth/Adults (ages 12 and
up). Though the material for older children is suitable for ages
8 - 11, you may choose to split the children into two groupings
- one for Grades 3 and 4, and the other for Grades 5 and 6. Materials
may be borrowed from the three age levels. This resource is a
toll to adapt to the needs of your parish.
Kit
contains:
Flow Chart - this gives a quick glance from the time
of creation to St. Paul 's letters
Planning Book - contains a Sign-up Poster for Bulletin
Board
Pre-registration is very important in the planning stage as it
will give the parish some idea of how many children are interested
in attending the groups.
Activities Book: Lessons are planned with many excellent
activities.
Themes
of the three kits
The story of the bible: how the
world's best selling book came to be.
Family ties: stories of families
in Scripture - e.g. Abraham & Sarah.
A people on the move: the story
of Moses
To
order the kit, call the CBAC office (416)406-4398
or e-mail jocmon@sympatico.ca
The cost of the Kit
is $60.00 plus postage and handling.

Program
The
Seed is the Word of God The Sower is Jesus
We are happy to present a Bible Study program for children
during a one week summer program in your parish.

"The people
were bringing children to him that he might touch them, but the
disciples rebuked them. When Jesus say this he became indignant
and said to them, Let the children come to me ; do not prevent
them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. Amen,
I say to you, whoever does not accept the kingdom of God like
a child will not enter it. Then he embraced them and blessed
them, placing his hands on them."
Mark (10:13-16).
